The human brain and kids in preschool
Here is the main reason why I am highly
sceptical to sending kids to preschool/kindergarden (barnehage) before they are
three. Brain science, to put it simply.
I do have other arguments, the main one
very simple – that I just believe that it´s best for the child to
be with its mother most of the time from 0 till 3. But other than my
own personal view of the matter, it is actually research of the brain and what
happends in a child´s brain the first years that is my main argument for my
conviction.
Today... after some consideration I decided to post an article about Preschool teachers critical of too young kids in preschool on my Facebook page, and comment on it in the online newspaper. It is not to condemn. Therefore I decided, as I´ve already ripped off the bandage and been vocal about my opinions, to write a little on my blog about why.
I know this is a highly controversial
theme, especially in Norway where most women send their children to preschool from 10 months to 1 year. I know some of you reading
this may be single mothers, be a couple of low income, loving your
jobs so much, having a high mortgage on your house... and believe me,
it´s hard for me to write this on my blog that I know people with
all sorts of backgrounds read. I don´t want to be condemning, but I
also don´t want to keep important information I have to myself. I
could probably write a chapter on all of this, maybe a whole book,
but I won´t. All I have when it comes down to it, is this, my own
opinions and my own story. Maybe – one day – I will share some
from my own story and why I believe a child, the first years, needs to have the safest people around the most.
The extract (utklipp) above from a research
done by Life Model Works talks about two years from conception. Why do I say three? Here is
another extract from their research.
I don´t think I will say more at this
point. If anyone has comments, please let me know. And if anyone
wants to discuss this or ask me questions, please don´t hesitate to
write me in my inbox on Facebook or mail.
English:
SvarSlettI agree with Karete that socializing is important for a child, but that being around Mom is more important for development of a healthy brain and the neural cells (I hope that is correct English), and that socializing is more important on a later stage then 1 year.
